The Australian Laser Championships are to be sailed from McCrae Yacht Club from December 27th-4th January 2014. McCrae YC has a strong history in holding Laser regatta’s dating back many years. McCrae is located at the northern end of the stunning Mornington Peninsula. Those who are going onto the Australian Youth Championships from January 6th-10th these are being sailed at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron inconjunction with Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club. The actual venue for the Youth Lasers will be Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron which hosted the huge 2008 Laser Nationals. So if you are doing both and don’t have accommodation yet then consider booking at Rye or Blairgowrie as you then will be able to stay at the one place and travel easily to both regatta’s.
For those with RIB’s McCrae is not as RIB friendly as the last few nationals. McCrae does not have a marina or moorings nearby however it does have the new Martha Cove Marina 15 minutes drive away where boats can be stored overnight, but you will need to allow time to get there and get out on the course or to the club. There are several ramps nearby too but…it is peak summer season. For those traveling to Blairgowrie you can easily do this by RIB in 30-40 minutes and there is a marina and mooring facilities as there was in 2008. http://www.mccraeyc.com.au and http://www.bys.asn.au
