Wet, windy, cold and almost summer in Melbourne. The Sportsboats including five SB3’s took on the Lipton Cup and raced in amongs some Div 3 and J-24’s. The racing was tight in the first two races and then the southerly came in and the race committee laid a new course and set an ambitious three lap race. Ambitious given a rain squall was forecast. In 25-27 knots the fleet set off and by the first mark the wind was up near 30 knots. The downwind rides were unbelievably fast however all good things must come to an end as the rain squall made finding marks almost impossible. The race committee tried to shorten course however with engine trouble almost no one noticed so the race was abandoned. Congratulations to the guys on Monkey Business who were super quick on the green machine and all the SB3’s for making the effort.
