Rob & Finn Hartnett with a Pacer
Well the time has come for us to stop borrowing club Pacers and get our own. The Pacer is quite an amazing yacht. Not in speed or good looks but the fact as a class it continues to grow. They are the boat of choice for teams racing, dinghy match racing, club training and a great parent child boat. My son Finn (above) and I raced one to victory at Blairgowrie recently in 25 knots and had a ball.
Most recently my youngest son Lachie and I borrowed one at Albert Sailing Club and Lachie sailed his first race at age 7. As luck would have it we won that race and again had a great time with Lachie keen on improving his tacking speed after he realised that dragging your glove in the water was not a great bonus for speed!
We are on the look out for a Pacer – fibreglass or wood? Check out future posts.
