Minnow 2009 Nationals

2009 0pen Start Minnow

The 2009 Minnow Nationals were sailed at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron in early January. The regatta was a big event with just under 100 boats competing. Entries in both divisions came from Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. The Open division saw 53 entries and the Novice division for those doing there first Minnow regatta had 43 entries a massive increase from previous years and a great sign for the class. The Open division was won by Jack Felsenthal in Cracker Jack (BRYC) from Tess Lloyd in Blondes Away (SSCBC) with the fast Zac O’Connell in Zac-A-Tack (SSCBC) in third. Hard Luck Award has to go to the very fast Tom Trotman who had lost his rig when the mast step parted and he was just one tack short of the finish and comfortably in first place. Tom still ended up in the top ten. Junior Championship results were Jack Graves (SSCBC) winning with Sam Hannah (SSCBC) second and Jack Abbott (SSCBC) third. In the Novice divison championship winner was Sailing Shacks Ben Hartnett (SSCBC) from Hugo Llewellyn (SSCBC) and Charlie Dixon (SSCBC) in third. Pics thanks to Steb Fisher (www.steb.com.au). Big thanks to the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron for a great regatta both on and off the water.
