The Victorian Tasar titles were held at McCraeYacht Club last month. We had 35 entries and a quality fleet with six out of the top ten at the last worlds entered including current and five time Aussie Champ Craig McPhee. We were sailing our boat “Sneaky Sailing System” (after the very hip band Sneak Sound System) and it was Ben’s first state title and our first together. Sneaky is not a new boat she is actually 22 years old but her first race was 2007 with us. Yeah I know what your thinking it must have been owned by a Bishop. Well yes it was!
Anyway we had a great regatta leading a couple of times briefly and getting four top ten finishes to end up equal10th. The last race being our best where we lead around the first mark and finished 6th. Ben’s legs were killing him in this last race as he has to hike superhard but he was determined to beat Craig McPhee home in at least one heat which we did. Paul Ridgeway sailed superbly to win from Craig McPhee with Derek Warne in his brand new boat third. Next Tasar regatta is Yarrawonga for us as long as there is water in the lake and ultimately we are aiming for the worlds in Japan in 2009. Hopefully by then Ben will have stacked on some weight so we won’t have the carry the lead penalty. Big thanks to Barry Stapleton for the use of his awesome dolly.
